The Hangover of Choices

The Hangover of Choices is a book that aims to highlight the importance of strengthening one’s inner self and build a stronger self-identity. It also points towards the futility of the need for external validation, the need to stand out in a crowd, fears, and other related aspects where one seems to feel that they have no control over their own lives.

Through her work in the space of mental health and gender equity, which includes working with women across the sector, Deepa Agarwal, the author has observed some commonalities amongst people, especially women: A negative body image, the feeling of ‘am not good enough in spite of reaching pinnacles of success in the outer world and other stressors. These sometimes lead to a lack of authenticity and mental health issues.

This gave birth to the book. In order to accomplish its intent of self-discovery, rather than making prescriptive, the book has been presented and packaged in fiction. It’s an engaging and extremely relatable story of the protagonist, who takes on this journey of self-realization, whilst she is on her deathbed.

Deepa Agarwal says, “The book is my humble attempt to bring forth the idea of inner life and the criticality of taking self-action. It’s an invitation for the readers to an honest look at oneself, before being assailed by the hangover of their own choices!”
