“ONE WALK ONE HOPE” – Breast Cancer Awareness Walkathon 2025 Organized by CAN-STOP & Rotary District 3234

To mark International Breast Cancer Awareness Month, CAN-STOP (Cancer Support Therapy to Overcome Pain), in collaboration with Rotary District 3234, successfully organized its 16th Annual Breast Cancer Awareness Walkathon – “ONE WALK ONE HOPE” on Sunday, October 26, 2025, at Island Grounds, Chennai.

The event was flagged off by Thiru Ma. Subramanian, Hon. Minister for Health and Family Welfare, Government of Tamil Nadu. Ms. Sanchita Shetty, Indian Actress, graced the occasion as the Special Invitee. The distinguished Guests of Honour included Rtn. Vinod Saraogi (District Governor, RID 3234), DGE Suresh D. Jain, IPDG N. S. Saravanan, PDG J. Sridhar, PDG J. B. Kamdar, and DGN Dr. Vijaya Bharathi Rangarajan, Founder of CAN-STOP and Trustee & Director, SMF.

The walkathon, centered around the theme “Hope Starts with ME,” aimed to raise public awareness about breast cancer prevention, early detection, and the importance of regular self-breast examination. The event drew an impressive crowd of over 5,000 participants, including cancer survivors, men supporting women in their lives, students, and members of the general public.

Participants walked together in solidarity, carrying messages of hope, strength, and empowerment. The event not only celebrated survivors but also encouraged proactive health practices and community involvement in the fight against cancer.

Adding to the awareness initiative, several information and screening stalls were set up at the venue to educate participants on breast cancer symptoms, early detection methods, and available medical resources. The event also featured free general medical check-ups, a ‘Donate a Mammogram’ drive, and entertainment programs, creating an engaging and impactful atmosphere.

Now in its 27th year of service, CAN-STOP continues to serve as a beacon of hope for individuals and families affected by cancer. Through counseling services, educational initiatives, and community outreach programs, the organization remains committed to supporting patients—especially those from underprivileged backgrounds—and spreading the vital message that early detection saves lives.

“ஒன் வாக் ஒன் ஹோப்” – மார்பகப் புற்றுநோய் விழிப்புணர்வு வாக்கத்தான்  2025

சர்வதேச மார்பகப் புற்றுநோய் விழிப்புணர்வு மாதத்தை முன்னிட்டு, கேன்–ஸ்டாப் (Cancer Support Therapy to Overcome Pain) அமைப்பு மற்றும் ரோட்டரி மாவட்டம் 3234 இணைந்து, “ஒன் வாக் ஒன் ஹோப்” எனப்படும் 16வது ஆண்டுக் மார்பகப் புற்றுநோய் விழிப்புணர்வு வாக்கத்தானை  அக்டோபர் 26, 2025, ஞாயிற்றுக்கிழமை அன்று, சென்னை ஐலந்து கிரவுண்ட்ஸில் வெற்றிகரமாக நடத்தியது.

இந்த நிகழ்ச்சியைத் துவக்கிவைத்தது திரு. மா. சுப்பிரமணியன், மதிப்பிற்குரிய சுகாதார மற்றும் குடும்ப நலத்துறை அமைச்சர், தமிழ்நாடு அரசு. திருமதி சஞ்சிதா ஷெட்டி, இந்திய நடிகை, சிறப்பு விருந்தினராக கலந்து கொண்டார். முக்கிய விருந்தினர்களாக ரோட்டேரியன் வினோத் சரோகி (மாவட்ட ஆளுநர், RID 3234), DGE சுரேஷ் டி. ஜெயின், IPDG என். எஸ். சரவணன், PDG ஜே. ஸ்ரீதர், PDG ஜே. பி. காம்தார், மற்றும் DGN டாக்டர் விஜயா பாரதி ரங்கராஜன் (கேன்-ஸ்டாப் நிறுவனர் மற்றும் இயக்குநர்  SMF) ஆகியோர் கலந்துகொண்டனர்.

“Hope Starts with ME” என்ற கருப்பொருளை மையமாகக் கொண்டு நடைபெற்ற இந்த நடைபயணம், மார்பகப் புற்றுநோயைத் தடுக்கும் வழிகள், ஆரம்பத்திலேயே கண்டறிதல், மற்றும் தன்னிச்சையான மார்பக பரிசோதனையின் முக்கியத்துவம் குறித்த விழிப்புணர்வை உருவாக்கும் நோக்கத்துடன் நடைபெற்றது.இந்நிகழ்ச்சியில் 5,000-க்கும் மேற்பட்ட  புற்றுநோயிலிருந்து மீண்டு வந்தவர்கள் , பெண்களை ஆதரிக்கும் ஆண்கள், மாணவர்கள் மற்றும் பொதுமக்கள் உற்சாகமாக கலந்து கொண்டனர்.

இந்நிகழ்ச்சியில் பேசுகையில் திரு .மா .சுப்ரமணியன்  அவர்கள் “தமிழ்நாடு அரசு, நோய் தடுப்பு சுகாதாரத்திற்காக முழுமையாக அர்ப்பணிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது . தமிழ்நாட்டில் இளம் சிறுமிகளுக்கு இலவச புற்றுநோய் தடுப்பூசி போடும் திட்டம் தொடங்க உள்ளது .மார்பகப் புற்றுநோய் குறித்து விழிப்புணர்வு ஏற்படுத்தும் நோக்கில் CANSTOP மற்றும் ரோட்டரி 3234 மாவட்டம் இணைந்து எடுத்துள்ள இந்த அர்த்தமுள்ள முயற்சியை நான் பாராட்டுகிறேன். ஆரோக்கியமான தமிழ்நாட்டை உருவாக்க சமூகங்களை ஒருங்கிணைக்கும் இத்தகைய செயல்பாடுகள் பெருமைபடுத்தத்தக்கவை” என்று கூறினார்.

பங்கேற்பாளர்கள் அனைவரும் ஒன்றிணைந்து நம்பிக்கை மற்றும் வலிமை என்ற செய்திகளை தாங்கி நடந்தனர். இது புற்றுநோயிலிருந்து மீண்டு வந்தவர்களை பாராட்டியதோடு மட்டுமின்றி, ஆரோக்கியமான வாழ்க்கை முறையையும், சமூக பங்களிப்பையும் ஊக்குவித்தது.

விழிப்புணர்வை அதிகரிக்கும் நோக்கில், நிகழ்ச்சி தளத்தில் பல தகவல் மற்றும் பரிசோதனை மையங்கள் அமைக்கப்பட்டு, மார்பகப் புற்றுநோயின் அறிகுறிகள், ஆரம்பக் கால  கண்டறிதல் முறைகள் மற்றும் மருத்துவ வசதிகள் குறித்து பங்கேற்பாளர்களுக்கு விளக்கங்கள் வழங்கப்பட்டன.மேலும், இலவச மருத்துவ பரிசோதனை முகாம், ‘Donate a Mammogram’ இயக்கம் மற்றும் கலாச்சார நிகழ்ச்சிகள் ஆகியவை நடைபெற்றன. இதனால் நிகழ்ச்சி மகிழ்ச்சிகரமாகவும், தாக்கமிக்கதாகவும் அமைந்தது.

டி.ஜி.என். டாக்டர் விஜயா பாரதி ரங்கராஜன் கூறுகையில் “ஆரம்ப கட்டத்திலேயே நோயை கண்டறிதல் என்பது, ஒரு பெண் தன்னிற்கும் தனது குடும்பத்திற்கும் அளிக்கக்கூடிய மிகப் பெரிய பரிசாகும். ‘டியர் அக்கா’ செயலி போன்ற முயற்சிகள் மூலம், ஒவ்வொரு பெண்ணும் தனது மார்பக ஆரோக்கியத்தை கவனிக்க வல்லமை பெறுவதை நாங்கள் நோக்கமாகக் கொண்டுள்ளோம் , ஏனெனில் மார்பகப் புற்றுநோய் ஆரம்பத்திலேயே கண்டறியப்பட்டால், அதைத் தடுக்கவும் குணப்படுத்தவும் முடியும்” என்றார். மேலும் ரோட்டேரியன் வினோத் சரோகி “CANSTOP உடன் சேர்ந்து, ரோட்டரி 3234 மாவட்டம் மொபைல் மாமோகிராம் யூனிட்டுகள் மூலம் தமிழ்நாட்டின் ஒவ்வொரு மூலையிலும் மார்பகப் புற்றுநோய் பரிசோதனை மற்றும் தடுப்பு சேவைகளை கொண்டு செல்ல உறுதியளிக்கிறது” என்றார்.
