Federal Bank Sponsored-Tamil Play Tharaiye Meyl Piraka Vaithaan

Let us now have a brief look at the synopsis of this play.

The relentless splashing of waves against the shore and receding into the sea is a miracle. Likewise, in the life of every fisherfolk their problems ebb and recede, but never ends. This community which generates maximum foreign exchange revenue  and provide food to many, ironically, never lead a normal life. There is no guarantee that a fisherman who ventures into the sea shall return safely after fishing. Till such time their men return to the shore, the agony and anxiety faced by the womenfolk cannot be explained in words. Leave alone the nature’s fury like rain, cyclone, they encounter lots of man-made problems like arrest by the foreign coast guard sometimes loss of life by the foreign forces. Their mistake…. venturing into foreign waters, albeit unknowingly. This folk’s appeal with the government of the day for ensuring safe fishing also resembles like waves which never rests.

As if these problems are not enough, the intervention of local politicians in their day-to-day life add up to their existing miseries. The fisherfolk’s daily life revolves around such multitude of problems.

The hero of this Play titled “Tharaiye Meyl Piraka Vaithaan” begins with the nagging question whether there is any solution to these problems faced by them. The Character in this  play  Kathirvel, his daughter Sengamalam and her would-be-husband Veerasamy  are all caught in such web of problems. As if this is not enough, politician Neelamegam and his henchman Selvam  adds to the problem of Kathirvel and his family who is supported and protected by a retired Army man Venugopal.

To know whether Kathirvel succeeded in tackling the above problems, the play “Tharaimel Pirakka Vaithan” shall provide answer on Sunday  May first  during the Kartik Fine Arts’ Kartik Rajagopal 31st  Summer Drama Festival that will  be staged at Naradha Gana Sabha Main Hall  at 6.45  p.m.Though there might have been many stories on the fishing community, the background of Tharaiye Meyl Piraka Vaithaan  would be definitely on a different canvas.
