In honour of the 75th jubilee year of Stella Maris College (Autonomous) the celebrations got off to a start on Independence Day 2021, with the release of postcards with pictorial representations of iconic buildings on campus. The Sapphirus Cognitio Talks Series was organised for students and faculty wherein experts from industry, academia, research institutions and the corporate organisations were held over March to May 2022. A grand finale on this day marked ten months of commemorative events which was graced by the presence of the Honourable Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Thiru. M.K. Stalin.

75th Jubilee Celebrations

A coffee table book “Glimpses from a Canopy of Memories” was released on the occasion. It showcases events, people, happenings, campus spaces and other evocative representations of the College from its humble beginnings to the position of repute it holds today in the field of women’s higher education in India. “The Star of the Sea: Then and Now” depicting the illustrious history of the College was also presented by the members of various clubs of the College. In commemoration of the 75th Jubilee year, a major collaborative project between the institution and MRF Tyres, for setting up an informatics centre, an incubation centre, and an indoor badminton court on campus was announced.

In her welcome address, Dr. Sr. Rosy Joseph fmm, Principal and Secretary Stella Maris College, thanked the many benefactors, well-wishers and collaborators of the College over the past 75 years and also thanked the invaluable contributors of the one hundred Jubilee Scholarships that have been instituted by the College towards deserving students to commemorate this momentous milestone.





Honourable Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Thiru. M.K. Stalin in his address expressed his happiness in being a part of the 75th Jubilee celebrations and also reminisced about his school and college days when he travelled by public transport en route Stella Maris. He also mentioned that the Government draws inspiration from the Artwork and Murals on the walls of Stella Maris to follow the same at railway stations, buses, public places etc. While quoting the renounced Tamil poet Bharathidasan, he said education is not merely reading a book but building courage, wisdom and skills, bringing out the individual talents, so as to help serve the society at large. He also highlighted the various welfare measures the present Government has incorporated in the Dravidian policy, “All for All” focused towards women’s empowerment.





Honourable Minister for Health and Family Welfare, Mr. Ma. Subramanian, Regional Joint Director, Chennai Region, Dr. R. Ravanan, Member of Parliament, Mr. Dayanidhi Maran, and Member of the Legislative Assembly, Dr. Ezhilan Naganathan, along with our benefactors and well-wishers were also present at the event.
