Komatsu sponsors Education Resource Centres at 2 villages in Gudalur
As a part of its CSR initiative, Komatsu, a Japanese company has partnered with Sevalaya Samaritan Gramodharan Samithy (Sevalaya SGS) and sponsored 2 Education resource centres in Kallachil and Bennai villages in Gudalur, Nilgiris Dt.
For each centre Komatsu has sponsored a smart board with an internet connection, 10 sets of desks and benches, 10 chairs, a library rack, a steel cupboard, and library books worth ₹15000/. Komatsu is also sponsoring the staff salary and evening snacks for the children attending the centre.
At a function held on 2nd November 2022, Kailash, Senior Manager HR and GA, Komatsu India Private Limited, inaugurated the first tuition centre in Kallachil village, Panthalur Taluk, Gudalur. The resource centre in Kallichal village is located in a Panchayat building which was fully whitewashed and spruced up by the volunteers from the community.
In his address, he said that Sevalaya, inspired by Bharathi, Gandhi and Vivekananda reaches out to the needy in remote villages and Komatsu was happy to partner with them for such services. He urged the people to use the facilities offered, and reap the benefits. He also said that while many corporates limit their CSR initiatives to their respective locations, Komatsu has ventured into such remote villages where service is actually needed. “This project will be a success only if the students study well and use the opportunities offered in this centre.” he concluded.
S Dillibabu, Manager Komatsu, appreciated Sevalaya SGS for reaching out to such an interior village and making education accessible for the children there.
K T Surendar, a local leader of the community participated in the function. In his address, he thanked Komatsu and Sevalaya SGS for creating the facility in their village. He insisted on the importance of education and urged the children and the villagers to make use of the facilities offered.

The second Education Resource centre was inaugurated at Bennai village. The whole village wore a festive look. Traditional tribal music was played welcoming the guests. C Vasu, a local community member, has kindly offered his two houses in the village to accommodate the resource centre in this village. Quoting a Tamil Proverb “ஊர் கூடினால் தேர் இழுக்கலாம்” which stresses on the importance of unity to achieve great objectives, Kailash said that he was happy to see the active participation of the local community in the function. He also expressed his hope that the same would continue and the community will be benefitted from this centre. He appealed to the parents in the village to ensure that their children make use of the facilities offered in the learning centre.
Dillibabu conveyed his wishes to the villagers for their enthusiastic participation.
Union Councillor Anitha Ramesh Puthurkadu, G Meenakshi, President of the School Management Committee, A K Rajendran, Vice President of the Folk Music Artistes Association, A Sabadu, Social worker and local auto driver A Kumar participated in the function and offered their congratulations.
