Awareness walkathon” was organized to create awareness about mental health among doctors and the general public

WORLD MENTAL HEALTH WEEK ­- OCTOBER 10 to 17- 2022

The Department of Psychiatry at Govt Stanley Medical College has treated 60000 outpatients, and 8000 inpatients in the past year. Furthermore, about 1500 patients get treated for deaddiction alone. We also conduct specialty clinics like senile clinic, suicide prevention clinic, child mental health clinic, family counseling, sexual dysfunction clinic, and community mental health programs on all weekdays




World health organization announces a world mental health day theme every year. This year’s theme is to Make mental health and well-being for all a global priority. This year World mental health week (Oct 10th –  17th ) was observed in our department as a part of which  A variety of programmes were organized by the Department of Psychiatry to dispel common myths and stigma regarding mental illness and to spread awareness among the general public regarding mental health.

As part of this programme , several printed handouts with common misconceptions about mental illness and their correct explanations were distributed to the general public in the Department of Psychiatry and in several other departments.

On the occasion of world mental health week, 12-10-2022 an “Awareness walkathon” was organized to create awareness about mental health among doctors and the general public. The walkathon was flagged off by the Dean Dr. Balaji, around 9.30 am from the new surgical block.




Mental health wellness fervor pervaded throughout Govt Stanley hospital today and the function was celebrated with great zest and zeal. An “awareness booklet “on mental health was released by the Dean before the walkathon along with Professor and H.O.D  Dr. W. J. Alexander Gnanadurai along with Professors from other departments. The entire faculty of the Department of Psychiatry, medical and nursing students, old patients, and the interested public took part in the walkathon holding placards with awareness slogans. The walkathon was flagged off at the new surgical block and came to an end at the Department of Psychiatry.
