Aadiperukku and Ayyanar Festival
DakshinaChitra welcomes the season of monsoon with the Aadiperukku & Ayyanar festival with traditional Tamil Nadu folk performance and crafts which will be held from July 31 st to August 4th 2019.
Ayyanaar, a village deity is believed to protect the villagers from all harms and also from poisonous insects and creatures. A procession of terracotta offerings to the Ayyanar shrine at DakshinaChitra will be accompanied by temple instruments to be held on the 3rd of August 2019. This village and water festival is celebrated with much enthusiasm every year at DakshinaChitra.
Aadiperukku, a festival of Tamil Nadu which worships and welcomes the waters that begin to flow and start the cultivation season for the farmers. As a part of the festival, DakshinaChitra has invited Seran Thudumbatta Kuzhu from Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. They will be entertaining the visitors with Thudumbattam.
