Village Health Nurse`s care and relief to a delicate segment during Covid – 19 Lockout
It was a most heartwarming example of rising to the occasion as Mrs M Jayalakshmi, serving a Village Health Nurse at the Primary Healthcare Center at Vellanur village near Avadi, Chennai.
Village Health nurses serve as a bridge between the government’s Primary Health Centres and the women folk in the village.As a Village Health Nurse serving in the region in terms of creating awareness on cleanliness,personal hygiene and nutrition for many years apart from her regular activities ie From the time a village woman conceives , she is given caring advice on nutrition and related issues by the nurse who also ensures prevention of anaemia and other health issues,etc.
Mrs Jayalakshmi observed during a Corona survey in the villages that the poor and pregnant women in this part were struggling for their daily food during the lockdown could badly affect the nutritional needs of pregnant mothers who need extra supplements during this critical phase.
The socially conscious Nurse braved the heat and inhospitable terrain to deliver the much needed essentials to pregnant women residing in the villages of New Vellanur, Kollumedu and New Kanniyamman nagar right at their doorstep and she also advising people on the preventive measures to be taken during COVID Lockdown.
She also providing essential items like rice, Wheat flavor and fresh vegetables to the economically weaker sections of society and migrant workers who lives in her area for the last 20 days .
During this lockdown period of Corona pandemic, a dedicated nurse’s selfless and humane help to the needy and her useful advices have won her deep appreciation.

மற்றும் தங்கள் பகுதியில் உள்ள கருவுற்ற பெண்களின் ஊட்டச்சத்து, உணவுமுறை அறிவுரையை கூறி , பேறுகாலத்தில் இரத்த சோகை வராமலும் பார்த்துக்கொள்ளுவதும் இவர்களது பணிகளில் முக்கியமானது.
இப்போது உள்ள கொரோனா – 19 ஊரடங்கு காலகட்டத்தில் தங்கள் பகுதில் உள்ள கருவுற்ற ஏழை கும்பத்தை சார்ந்த தாய்மார்கள் தங்களின் குடும்ப தினசரி மற்றும் நிலையான வருமானம் இல்லாதபோது , அவர்கள் சாப்பாட்டிற்கே வழியில்லாமல் இருப்பதை தனது கொரோன கணக்கெடுப்பின் பொது அறிந்த இந்த செவிலியர் மற்றும் இவரின் கணவரின் உதவியுடன் தங்களினால் முடிந்தவரை சில குடும்பங்களுக்கு உதவலாம் என முடிவு செய்து அத்தியாவசிய தேவைகளான அரிசி, மளிகை பொருட்கள் மற்றும் காய்கறிகள் வழங்கினார், அத்துடன் கர்ப்பிணிகள் இந்தக் காலத்தில் எடுத்துக் கொள்ள வேண்டிய முன்னெச்சரிக்கை நடவடிக்கைகளையும் தேவையான ஆலோசனைகளையும் அவர்களுக்கு வழங்கினார்கள். கொள்ளுமேடு, வெள்ளானுர் மற்றும் கன்னியம்மன் நகர் கிராம் மக்களுக்கு இந்த உதவிகள் அவர்களின் வீடுகளுக்கே நேரடியாக வழங்கினார்.
