Muhammed Muzzammil Imthiaz Strikes Gold

Muhammed Muzzammil Imthiaz of Hindustan International School, Chennai had recently competed in the JNEC (Junior National Equestrian Championship) at ARC Mumbai. Muzzammil had to challenge 91 other young athletes and participated in Dressage (37) and Show Jumping (54)events. Muhammed Muzzammil Imthiaz finally aced the events and won Team Gold in both the categories between 10-12 years. The Junior National Equestrian Championship -2021(JNEC) is a sports event that is organized under the aegis of the Equestrian Federation of India between 19th to 30th December 2021 at the Amateur Riders Club, Mumbai.




The 19th Asian Games Equestrian trials for the selections took place from 12th to 16th December 2021 at the Amateur Riders Club at Mahalakshmi Race Course, Mumbai. Organized by the Equestrian Federation of India (EFI), Athletes from across Delhi, Bangalore and Chennai along with host city Mumbai, took part in the trials which had two rounds for teams and individuals to qualify. Master Muhammed Muzzammil Imthiaz qualified through and with his arduous efforts and perseverance attained this victory; making it a proud moment for his Parents and for Hindustan International School.

Q: What made you to choose Horse Riding?

My basic love for animals especially horses.

Q: From what age you stared focusing on competitions?

8 years.

Q: What in spires and motivates you to participate in such competitions?

Horse riding is my passion and I love doing it every day but competition makes me motivated to ride better and also helps me perform under pressure.

Q: How many hours you practice a day?

Every day morning close to 1 hour six days week, but before competitions morning and evening 2-3 hours/day.

Q: Describe your worst sports performance. What did you learn from this experience?

I fell down from Duncan (a horse) in show jumping. This is my worst experience and I learnt to overcome my fear and perform better in the competitions.

Q: What’s the best piece of advice you’ve gained from your coaches?

A competitions cannot be won with physical endurance alone; it requires mental endurance and discipline.




Q: Describe your major highlights and achievements in sports in the past?

This is my first major completion I have participated.

Q: Share your experience on JNEC and Judges?

It was a good experience, and the judges were very strict in giving marks in Dressage.

Q: What do you believe is the greatest challenge most athletes are facing today?

Lack of confidence.

Q: Future plans?

I am planning to buy a horse and hopefully will represent India.
