Event: Utsavam 2021 – Building resilience in the arts through live and digital experiences.

Concept Note: 6th edition of DakshinaChitra’s annual Theatre, Music, and Dance symposium, and festival – UTSAVAM will take place on March 27 and 28, 2021. This year, DakshinaChitra partner with Alliance Franchise of Madras, Goethe Institute, and British Council of India for the festival.
Utsavam 2021 focuses on the shift in the landscape of performing arts in the post-COVID future. It addresses various perceptions, ideas, and skills that artists have had to hone to adapt to a technologically savvy arts world. The pandemic has accelerated the transition from live performances to online platforms but has also left behind many rural arts and artists when it comes to the digital economy. Artists today have no choice but to be technicians, lighting experts, video editors, copywriters, marketing experts and the hosts to their own reality shows on social media. Utsavam aims at exploring the shift in the performance scenario through its insightful discussions and experiential events. It also hopes to seek strategies for a financially stable future for any artist or arts organization and learning as a collective community.
The DakshinaChitra Virudhu also takes place on a Saturday evening, this year the recipient is Shri Keremane Shivananda Hegde of Sri Idagunji Mahaganapati Yakshagana Mandali, Keremane for excellence and lifetime contribution to YAKSHAGANA.
