Student wins international Gold Medal at Shooting competition in Korea
- Defeated Tokyo Olympics silver medalist Lucas Kozeniesky of the USA in one-sided competition for the 10m Air Rifle final
- The occasion was the Shooting World Cup organized by International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) in Changwon, Korea
- Clinched the country’s maiden gold medal, so far, at the ongoing World Cup competitions
- About 450 athletes from 43 countries are participating in 30 events of the competitions
M A Journalism & Mass Communication student of Lovely Professional University (LPU), Arjun Babuta has won an international gold medal in the 10m Air Rifle final of the Shooting World Cup, on its very first day. Representing India, LPU student Babuta excelled Tokyo Olympics silver medalist Lucas Kozeniesky of the USA, in a one-sided competition, with the final winning effort of 17-9.
The shooting competitions in Rifle/Pistol/Shotgun are being organized by the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) in Changwon (Korea), which are to continue up to 21st July 2022. LPU’s student shooter won the event to clinch the country’s maiden gold medal, so far, at the ongoing World Cup. Hailing from Mohali in Punjab and being a student of LPU to fulfill his dreams, Babuta had earlier topped the ranking match with 261.1 points to qualify for the gold medal clash.
About 450 athletes from 43 countries are taking part in 30 events of the World Cup. It will provide an opportunity not only to compete for medals but also for having “World Ranking” points. It seems LPU student is inching toward capturing another ISSF’s highest award “the Blue Cross” for the country, as has earlier been done by the ace shooter of the country, Abhinav Bindra.
