Sevalaya NGO Celebrates the Weddings of Two Daughters Raised in Its Home

Two daughters of Sevalaya, Sowmiya and Pugazharasi, hostelites from a young age, were seated on mats and adorned with sandal paste and vermillion, undergoing the traditional “Nalangu” before their marriages on August 22nd—one at Kosavampalayam near Chennai and the other at Gudalur in the Nilgiris district. Their faces beamed as not one but many mothers working in different departments of Sevalaya showered their blessings on the girls.

Both had grown up at Sevalaya’s girls’ home and completed their schooling there. When proposals for marriage from boys’ families were received, the consent of the girls was obtained, and necessary preparations were made. Donors were informed and generously contributed in cash and kind.

Both weddings went off well by the grace of the Lord and the good wishes of Sevalaya’s well-wishers. As these two young women step into a new phase of their lives, let’s join in wishing Sowmiya and Sivakumar, and Pugazharasi and Prasanth, a happy married life. May the rest of their lives be filled with joy, laughter, and the happiness of family.

Sevalaya, an NGO working for the underprivileged for the past 36 years, has been providing free education to nearly 2,200 children, skill development to more than 1,000 youth, free healthcare to over 1,000 people daily, and care for homeless destitute children and elders. The children are not only provided with education to sustain themselves but are also cared for until they are married and settled in life.
