Poetry defies Age Barriers”

release of Efflorescence 2023 at TAG Auditorium

“Poetry Defies Age Barriers”

Chennai Poets’ Circle conducted its annual seminar at TAG Auditorium, Sri Ramakrishna Higher Secondary School, T. Nagar, and launched its anthology “Efflorescence 2023.”  About 60 poets participated in the meet, which included participants from Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Telangana, and Kolkata.  The anthology features 116 poets in the age group 12 to 80+, with poems covering a wide range of poetic styles and topics.
The chief guest on the occasion was Dr. K. N. Sivaraman, Senior Consultant in English Studies, Teaching, and Life Skills.  ‘Poetry enables us to perceive and appreciate beauty, order and arrangement of words, exercising our emotions and thoughts and giving expression to a combination of these.’ Talking about the paradigm shift in poetry, the Chief guest remarked that in today’s context,  strict rules of poetic composition have been dispensed with, and poets are ‘boldly experimental in their work with their inventive use of allusions.’

Dr. Thirumeni, Chairman welcomed the audience,  Dr. Kannan delivered the Presidential address, and Ravi Ranganathan, the Treasurer delivered the vote of thanks. The programme was anchored by Hema Ravi, Secretary (CPC) and editor of Efflorescence.
For the last two years, the Efflorescence has been featuring ‘Young Poets Corner,’ to provide a platform to young aspirants. A notable feature of Efflorescence 2023 is the contribution by young poets from Chennai and Kerala.
Chennai Poets Circle (CPC), a non-political poetic group, has been promoting the cause of Indian writing in English since 2003.
