Chennai Photo Biennale Edition 4: A Celebration of Photography and Visual Storytelling
The fourth edition of the Chennai Photo Biennale (CPB) opened on December 20, 2024, under the theme “Why Photograph?”, initiating a three-month celebration of photography and storytelling. With over 20 exhibitions and programs, the biennale pushes the boundaries of lens-based art, showcasing local and global narratives. The first phase features two primary exhibitions and three invited shows across Chennai, running until March 16, 2025.
A key highlight is the exhibition “It’s Time. To See. To Be Seen” at Lalit Kala Akademi, Thousand Lights, inaugurated by cultural advocate Ms.Anita Ratnam. The inauguration events witnessed the presence of distinguished dignitaries, including Dr. Katharina Görgen, Director, Goethe-Institut Chennai and Mr. M. Savan Kumar, Regional Secretary, Regional Centre Chennai. This showcase presents works by 21 from six countries, addressing the gender gap in photography and offering unique perspectives through their lenses.
Supported by Goethe-Institut Chennai as the primary partner and The Hindu – Made of Chennai as the media partner, the biennale also includes workshops, talks, and interactive installations. Other collaborators, such as TNQ Publishing , TamilNadu tourism and Photo South Asia, have contributed to making this event a success. With its dedication to gender equity and the celebration of Tamil Nadu’s photographic heritage, CPB Edition IV promises a transformative cultural experience for all attendees.
